Position - Optometrist Intern

Qualifications:

Education

Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Doctor of Optometry (OD) program from an accredited optometry school.

Licensure

Must be in the process of obtaining or have obtained any necessary state or country-specific optometry licensure or permits for internship purposes.

Experience

Previous clinical experience through coursework, rotations, or volunteer work in optometry or related healthcare fields is preferred but not required.

Basic familiarity with eye care practices and common ocular conditions is beneficial.

Skills

Strong interest in learning and applying optometric skills in a clinical setting.

Basic knowledge of diagnostic techniques and equipment used in eye exams.

Effective communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.

Attention to detail and ability to follow clinical procedures accurately.

Knowledge

Understanding of fundamental optometric concepts and practices.

Familiarity with current advancements in optometry and eye care.

Patient Care

Demonstrated ability to engage with patients empathetically and professionally.

Willingness to learn patient interaction techniques and patient care protocols.

Technical Proficiency

Basic proficiency in using optometric diagnostic tools and equipment is a plus.

Eagerness to receive training and hands-on experience with advanced diagnostic devices.

Professionalism

Demonstrated commitment to professional development and ethical standards.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and adhere to hospital protocols.

Responsibilities

Assist experienced optometrists and ophthalmologists in conducting eye exams and diagnosing ocular conditions.

Gain hands-on experience with diagnostic equipment and learn to perform basic procedures under supervision.

Observe and participate in patient care, including history taking, vision testing, and treatment planning.

Support patient education by providing information on eye health and preventive care, as directed by supervising professionals.

Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, and educational sessions to enhance learning.
