Common Eye Disorders and Diseases
Cataract:
Cataract is a condition that occurs in the lens of the eye. The lens is a clear and curved part of the eye located behind the iris. This lens plays a vital role in clear eyesight by focusing on the retina as the human age increases the clear lens changes to the unclear lens which is cloudy. So this cloudy lens forms an unclear image on the retina causing blurry, cloudy, and glare vision which affects the quality of life. To regain clear eyesight, cataracts need surgical removal of cataract and implantation of artificial lenses.
- Implantation of the lens is permanent.
- Improves quality of life.
- Reduce dependence.
Diabetic Retinopathy:
The retina is the light-sensitive part of the eye that acts as a bridge between the eye and the brain because the image received on the retina sends signals to the brain via the optic nerve. It is red or orange because of the many blood vessels just located behind it. When the individual has an uncontrol diabetes level, it involves abnormal growth of blood vessels in the retina which affects the vision, like
- Blurry or distorted vision
- Flashes of light, or floaters.
Mild issues of the retina can be treated whereas, severe cases may need laser treatment and surgeries. It is advisable to get your eyes checked regularly.
Glaucoma:
Glaucoma is called a “silent thief of sight” that leads to vision loss due to increased high IOP that damages the optic nerve of the eyes. The symptoms of Glaucoma may not be noticed in the early stage so that is why it is called a “Silent thief of sight”. The vision loss starts slowly from the periphery and total vision loss happens in severe cases. As there is no cure for glaucoma it is advisable to get a comprehensive eye checkup
