Bifocal Lenses Vs Progressive Lenses

At An-Noor Eye Hospital, our utmost priority is to maintain hygiene in the present scenario and take care of your eyes, the most sensitive and significant part of your body. We mostly neglect vision issues as no one wants to wear glasses, or you say we are not ready to accept the fact that after a certain age, mostly common after 40, focal issues occur as we get emotional over ageing and become prominent because of eyeglasses. Our ophthalmologists suggest you use contact lenses or glasses according to your vision examination, and there are many suggested lenses that are progressive and bifocal lenses.

What is a progressive lens?

We also know progressive lenses as no-line bifocals or multifocal lenses as they work in multifunctional ways.In easy language, progressive glasses work as 3 in one for your vision issues, so there is no need of changing glasses, for example, for near vision like reading a book or phone, middle distance like checking something on a computer, or distance viewing like driving, etc.

These glasses give you a more youthful appearance as no line is visible in progressive glasses.

As we age, our eyesight becomes weak and blurry; mostly, this happens at 35 or 40, and sometimes in kids.So those who prescribed multifocal lenses can choose this option.

Suppose you face problems with seeing objects to the extent that things are not visible to you while you read or keep objects nearer or distant. In that case, a progressive lens is a better option as you don’t have to keep changing your glasses for near and farthings, for example, you can use the same glass for reading a book, on mobile or desktop, laptop or watching tv and reading the subtitles, etc.

How it is distinct from bifocal lenses (progressive versus bifocal)

  • As single vision prescription is regular glass and multi-vision prescription is preferable for progressive ones.
  • Bifocal lenses give you only coverage of near. The cross overs look, which means in between objects view is not clear in bifocal lenses, and there is area division on the frame for far and near. Hence, the user has to alternately look through the top and bottom of their bifocals to figure out which way it is comfortable. So, tilting the head up and down may cause computer vision syndrome (Headaches, Loss of focus, burning eyes, tired eyes, double eyes, etc.) as the bifocal user has to sit closer to the screen.

So as suggested for the multifunctional usage, progressive eyeglasses are preferable ones.

Benefits of progressive eyeglasses and usage

  • For those who are facing multifocal issues for near, far as well as in between sight view
  • Youthful look because of natural and multifocal glasses.
  • One set of glass for the three sight issues.
  • Preferable by more people because of smoother and regular reading glass look because it has no line on glasses like the bifocal one

Progressive lenses types

Let us introduce you to a few progressive glasses as per your need,

  • Premium progressive lenses

Premium progressive lenses

It is a customised glass that is made according to your prescription and choice. It is mostly free from design or wavefront technology, with a much wider area and hassle-free vision. It’s slightly higher cost than other glasses. And yes, it’s much easier to get used to these lenses.

Standard progressive glasses

As the name says it all, most people prefer it as this solves their prescribed vision problem and it’s affordable too, standard glasses give you a suitable wide area of vision. But it may not work with all frames.

Short corridor progressive lenses

These frames have smaller frames and a narrow look that goes with fashion; people concerned about their looks mostly choose this, but short corridor progressive lenses may be uncomfortable in vision because of the small window glasses. Try n test it before going for this; it’s a little expensive too.

Transition progressive glasses

In simple language, we know transition progressive glasses to be smart or intelligent glasses as they change their colour when exposed to sunlight, or you say bright weather. So there is no need to carry your sunglasses, These are not official glasses, but people use them for their convenience for fashion or comfort.

Ground view progressive lenses

It is preferable for outdoor lovers; vision is clear through the bottom and sides, more comfortable driving or working on the computer, etc. It provides you with a natural look.

Computer progressive lenses

As the name says it all, computer progressive lenses provide you clear vision for near work; it’s a glass for office settings. But it only meant for progressive computer glasses to be put on only if you are working on the computer for long hours as it won’t work outdoors because of their glass setting you have to carry a unique set of glass for general use.
